Local Supplies
So you want to build some fire toys... where do you find all the parts and stuff? Here’s a list of places where we usually shop when we need parts. Note also that there are a variety of good online suppliers who can also help you.
- Cole Fox Hardware
70 4th Street @ Mission
(plus other locations; see Web site)
In addition to a huge range of other hardware supplies for house and home, Cole Fox carries eyebolts, washers, quick-links, swivels, various types of chain, and aluminum pipe (good for staffs). They also have some ball chain, but Cliff’s Variety has a much wider selection. Cole Fox also has rivet guns, in case you want to build your own handles.
- Cliff’s Variety
479 Castro @ 18th
This is the place for ball chain. Plus connectors. They also have all the usual stuff that any other hardware store has (like Cole Fox), but it’s their ball chain selection that really makes Anne and Kai drool.
- Roberts Hardware
1629 Haight btwn Cole/Belvedere
One of the employees here is either into firedancing, or else just wants to cater to firedancers. Either way, they stock all the fixings you could possibly want, from bolts, screws and fasteners to various types of chain and cable... plus they actually carry Kevlar itself. Granted, you’ll get a better price from Renegade Juggling, but if you suddenly need some Kevlar, in a real hurry... well, Roberts has got you covered, while Renegade would take a week or so to ship it to you.
All of the above places also carry either white gas (aka Coleman fuel) or kerosene, or lamp oil, or some combination of them.
